PostHeaderIcon Pablo Picasso

Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.

Picasso demonstrated uncanny artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence; during the first decade of the twentieth century his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. His revolutionary artistic accomplishments brought him universal renown and immense fortunes throughout his life, making him the best-known figure in twentieth century art.

PostHeaderIcon Walking

What are the top 10 reasons to walk?

1. Walking prevents type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program showed that walking 150 minutes per week and losing just 7% of your body weight (12-15 pounds) can reduce your risk of diabetes by 58%.

2. Walking strengthens your heart if you're male. In one
study, mortality rates among retired men who walked less than one mile per day were nearly twice that among those who walked more than two miles per day.

3. Walking strengthens your heart if you're female. Women in the Nurse's Health Study (72,488 female nurses) who walked three hours or more per week reduced their risk of a heart attack or other coronary event by 35% compared with women who did not walk.

4. Walking is good for your brain. In a study on walking and cognitive function, researchers found that women who walked the equivalent of an easy pace at least 1.5 hours per week had significantly better cognitive function and less cognitive decline than women who walked less than 40 minutes per week. Think about that!

5. Walking is good for your bones. Research shows that postmenopausal women who walk approximately one mile each day have higher whole-body bone density than women who walk shorter distances, and walking is also effective in slowing the rate of bone loss from the legs.

6. Walking helps alleviate symptoms of depression. Walking for 30 minutes, three to five times per week for 12 weeks reduced symptoms of depression as measured with a standard depression questionnaire by 47%.

7. Walking reduces the risk of breast and colon cancer. Women who performed the equivalent of one hour and 15 minutes to two and a half hours per week of brisk walking had an 18% decreased risk of breast cancer compared with inactive women. Many studies have shown that exercise can prevent colon cancer, and even if an individual person develops colon cancer, the benefits of exercise appear to continue both by increasing quality of life and reducing mortality.

8. Walking improves fitness. Walking just three times a week for 30 minutes can significantly increase cardiorespiratory fitness.

9. Walking in short bouts improves fitness, too! A study of sedentary women showed that short bouts of brisk walking (three 10-minute walks per day) resulted in similar improvements in fitness and were at least as effective in decreasing body fatness as long bouts (one 30-minute walk per day).

10. Walking improves physical function. Research shows that walking improves fitness and physical function and prevents physical disability in older persons.

PostHeaderIcon Pakito - Biography

Pakito's Biography

Most music fans would probably remember Trans-X and their famous song “Living on Video” produced in the early eighties.

Jump to 2006 when Julien Ranouil (co-founder of Duo Prod) decides to remix the song adding his unique personal touch. This is the beginning of the new big project “Pakito” which will soon reveal itself to become a real success story!

“Living on Video” is released in 2006 and a large DJ community adopts this song making it a No.1 in European dance charts.

Numbers speak for themselves: No.1 in French clubs for 9 weeks, most played song in French clubs in 2006, most sold disc in France for 1 month (400,000 copies sold in total) and also No.1 in other European countries like Spain and Holland.

Other songs like “Moving on Stereo” and “Are U Ready” soon follow and the album “Video” is also released in 2006. “Pakito” is now definitely playing a big role on the French Dance Music scene!

It’s also back in 2006 the “Pakito” tour officially kicks-off. This was the result of a meeting between Julien (producer) and Manu (talented dancer and MC). With the collaboration of the French Music label of” Pakito”, “Airplay Records”, a show is developed around Manu himself and this is the beginning of what would become a great adventure “The Pakito International Tour”.

Finally, Pakito is back in 2009 with a new single "Electro Music". Today, the story continues as a new song called "Harmony" is announced and should be released by the end of 2009.

PostHeaderIcon Dj Tiesto - Biography

Born: January 17, 1969 in Breda, The Netherlands
Years Active: 90 's, 00's
Genre: ELEC

Highly regarded by both DJ Magazine and ultra-loyal fans, DJ Tiësto, due in part to his legendary six-hour, energetic live sets, has been elevated to mythical status as one of the world's foremost trance DJs. A native of Breda, Netherlands (born Tijs Verwest on January 17, 1969), Tiësto first starting playing out at a well-known club in his hometown called the Sprock. Discovered there by the GM of Rotterdam-based Basic Beat Recordings, Tiësto released his first of five mix CDs as a part of the label's Forbidden Paradise series.
Coupled by quick success and his accelerated work ethic, Tiësto soon partnered with Arny Bink and, in late 1997, started Black Hole Recordings as a private label for his productions and mixes which became the birthplace for both his Space Age and revered Magik series (volume seven hit during the summer of 2001). In addition to these acclaimed series, Black Hole also brought the world the first mix compilations from artists such as Ferry Corsten, Johan Gielen, and Armin Van Buuren, and introduced yet another prized series called In Trance We Trust.
Relentless global touring ensued and, in three short years, the world outside Holland took notice with Nettwerk finally signing him to a stateside deal. Summerbreeze marked Tiësto's U.S. debut, a mix album that showcased his remix of Delerium's "Silence" (featuring Sarah McLachlan), an epic 11 1/2 minute tour de force of throbbing beats cascading within a swirl of sweeping synthesized sounds, all of which cocooned round McLachlan's majestically angelic voice; a call from heaven heard from shore to shore to shore. Aside from reverberating throughout dance clubs everywhere, the remix was massive, spending four weeks in the Top Ten in the U.K., peaking at number three on the Billboard dance charts, and continues to remain one of the most influential tracks of the progressive dance era.
With this swell of immediate notoriety, he instantly became one of the most sought after producers/remixers and catapulted a stylized musical fashion, that of weaving threads of ethereal female vocals deep within the ebbs and flows of a tidal wave of pulsating electronic rhythms. As this anointed purveyor of exuberant layered soundscapes, Tiësto has churned out female-fueled remixes that span the gamut, including tracks by Chicane, Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer (on Delerium "Innocente"), and Faithless. And there's more to come. A thorough sonic search in MP3 land unearths several tasty treats of re-workings of SuReal "You Take My Breath Away," Kosheen on their club smash "Hide U," Dave Matthews Band "The Space Between," and a blistering exploration on the theme from A Clockwork Orange.
Clockwork it seems to be as Tiësto's star continues to shine bright. November 2001 saw the release of In My Memory (Nettwerk), his first artist album that mixes original compositions-turned club anthems ("Flight 643") with more commercial fare, as evidenced on the title track with vocals by Mandalay's Nicola Hitchcock. April 2002 kept his catalog expanding with the release of the third installment of Tiësto's hypnotically elegant, Ibiza-influenced, and aptly named mix compilation entitled In Search of Sunrise. His 2004 album Parade of the Athletes was the soundtrack to the opening ceremony of that year's Olympics and recalled the work of Jean Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder. Elements of Life from 2007 featured a guest appearance from BT along with numerous guest vocalists. Robert Evanoff, All Music Guide

Rihanna is a singer who came from Barbados, born as Robyn Rihanna Fenty on the 20th of February'88. She moved to the United States when she turned sixteen in order to pursue a career in music, guided by Evan Rogers, a record producer. Monica and Ronald Fenty are Rihanna's parents, with Monica being a mixture of Guyanese and Afro blood, while Ronald has Irish and Barbadian blood. When Rihanna reached fourteen years of age, her parents split up. One year later, Rihanna formed a musical group with a couple of her classmates. In the year 2003, Rihanna and the other band members met record producer Evan Rogers who was at that time on vacation in Barbados. Rihanna was the only one who caught the interest of Rogers, taking her to where she is now.

In August of 2005, the Def Jam label launched Rihanna's debut album entitled "Music of the Sun" which made its way to number 10 on the US Billboard 200 chart. To date, Rihanna's first album turned Gold, certified by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album's lead single "Pon de Replay" hit the 2nd spot in Billboard's Hot 100. Another single found in "Music of the Sun" is "If It's Lovin' That You Want", but it was less successful than the lead single.
In less than a year, Rihanna introduced her second album entitled "A Girl Like Me" in 2006. It turned platinum and its first single "SOS" topped Billboard's Hot 100. The second single entitled "Unfaithful" also became an international hit. In November 2006 up to February of the following year (2007), Rihanna went on tour with the Pussycat Dolls wherein they performed in the UK.
Rihanna's third album was launched in 2007 and it featured other popular artists like Timbaland, Ne-yo, etc. The album was called "Good Girl Gone Bad" and contained some of Rihanna's hit tracks like "Umbrella", "Hate That I Love You", etc. In 2008, Rihanna received her very first Grammy Award: "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration" for her single "Umbrella". She also garnered a number of nominations like Song of the Year and Record of the Year for "Umbrella", Best R&B Song for "Hate That I Love You", and many more.

Just last February (2009), Rihanna was not able to perform at the 2009 Grammy Awards because of the domestic violence issue involving her and her boyfriend Chris Brown. Just last March 5, 2009, Brown faced assault charges and lost his endorsements for various products.

PostHeaderIcon Tarkan : Don't Leave Me Alone Lyrics

Must have been to blinded to see
It was there all along
And all the signs that I missed, gave up on me
They're already gone
Fire, I want it back
Desire, I want it back
Tell me you believe ther's no chance
That we still belong

OOO
I know I can't escape the pain
It's falling on me like the rain
Don't leave me alone

Nights are getting lonely and cold
I am left in the dark
And all the words should have been unspoken
Trust in our hearts
Fire, I want it back
Desire, I want it back
This can't be the end of the story
Let's not fall apart

OOO
I know I can't escape the pain
It's falling on me like the rain
Don't leave me alone
OOO
Baby try to keep the faith
To make the sun come out again
Don't leave me alone

I miss your skin on my skin
Won't you let me in
Need to have it all
I miss your kiss on my lips
Won't you not resist
Need to have it all
I need to have it all

Fire, I want it back
Desire, I want it back

[Chorus]

PostHeaderIcon Lady Gaga - Biography

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga was born on March 20th'86. She is an American singer, songwriter and musician. Gaga was born in Yokers, New York but grew up in Mahattan. She got her stage name when music producer Rob Fusari compared her vocal style to Freddie Mercury and took the name Gaga from the Queen song "Radio Ga Ga".

Lady Gaga learned to play the piano by ear at the age of four, and began performing at open mic nights by age—. When she was 17 Lady Gaga was one of the 20 people in the world who gained early admission to the New York University's Tish School of the Arts. This is where she developed her writing skills by composing essays about arts, religion and socio political order. She did however withdraw from university and never graduated. She then moved out of the house, and started hanging out in the Lower East Side doing drugs, and appearing in burlesque shows at dive bars with drag queens and go go dancers. Lady Gaga admits that her father couldn't even look at her and she says 'he just didn't understand'.

By age 20 she began working with Interscope records as a songwriter. She has written songs for the pop sensation Pussycat Dolls. Akon recognized Gaga's vocal talent, and signed her to his label Kon Live Distribution. She started to work on her debut album after that. She released The Fame in 2008 which supposedly was about how 'anyone can feel famous'. Her first single Just Dance (nominated for a Grammy) was a huge success.

Lady Gaga was influenced by David Bowie and Queen, along with Madonna and Michael Jackson. Lady Gaga apparently got rid of her natural brunette hair and died it blonde because she kept being mistaken for singer Amy Winehouse.

PostHeaderIcon Astronauts Exposed to Higher Levels of Radiation

Without the protection of the Earth's atmosphere, astronauts are exposed to higher levels of radiation from a steady flux of cosmic rays. The station's crews are exposed to about 1 millisievert of radiation each day, which is about the same as someone would get from natural sources on Earth in a year. This results in a higher risk of astronauts' developing cancer. High levels of radiation can cause damage to the chromosomes of lymphocytes. These cells are central to the immune system and so any damage to them could contribute to the lowered immunity experienced by astronauts. Over time lowered immunity results in the spread of infection between crew members, especially in such confined areas. Radiation has also been linked to a higher incidence of cataracts in astronauts. Protective shielding and protective drugs may lower the risks to an acceptable level, but data is scarce and longer-term exposure will result in greater risks.

Despite efforts to improve radiation shielding on the ISS compared to previous stations such as Mir, radiation levels within the station have not been vastly reduced, and it is thought that further technological advancement will be required to make long-duration human spaceflight further into the Solar System a possibility.

PostHeaderIcon International Space Station (ISS)

The International Space Station (ISS) is an internationally developed research facility that is being assembled in low Earth orbit. On-orbit construction of the station began in 1998 and is scheduled for completion by 2011. The station is expected to remain in operation until at least 2015, and likely 2020. With a greater mass than that of any previous space station, the ISS can be seen from the Earth with the naked eye, and, as of 2010, is the largest artificial satellite orbiting the Earth. The ISS serves as a research laboratory that has a microgravity environment in which crews conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy and meteorology. The station has a unique environment for the testing of the spacecraft systems that will be required for missions to the Moon and Mars. The ISS is operated by Expedition crews, and has been continuously staffed since 2 November 2000, meaning the ISS programme has maintained an uninterrupted human presence in space for the past & 9 years and 159 days, which is approaching the current record, set aboard Mir, of 9 years and 257 days. As of 18 March 2010, the crew of Expedition 23 is aboard.

The ISS provides a location in the relative safety of Low Earth Orbit to test spacecraft systems that will be required for long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars.

Because of the size of the ISS (about that of an American football field) and the large reflective area offered by its solar panels, ground based observation of the station is possible with the naked eye if the observer is in the right location at the right time. In many cases, the station is one of the brightest naked-eye objects in the sky, although it is visible only for periods ranging from two to five minutes.

The cost estimates for the ISS range from 35 billion to 160 billion dollars.

PostHeaderIcon Golden Lion Tamarin

The Golden Lion Tamarin, also known as Golden Marmoset, is a small New World monkey of the family Callitrichidae. Native to the Atlantic coastal forests of Brazil, the Golden Lion Tamarin is an endangered species with an estimated wild population of "more than 1,000 individuals" and a captive population maintained at approximately 490 individuals.

This lion tamarin is a reddish orange to golden brown in color. Its hair is longer and darker around the face, forming a mane on top of the head and on the cheeks and throat. Its limbs are slender yet capable with sharp claw-like nails. The tail and forepaws of this monkey may have a black coloration. Its body may be up to 335 millimetres (13.2 in) long and its tail up to 400 millimetres (16 in). The male reaches a maximum weight of just 700 grams (25 oz) in the wild though higher weights can be found in captivity. The pregnant female may weigh up to 790 grams (28 oz) but a non-gestating female typically weighs closer to 550 grams (19 oz).

Most of the wild population is confined to the Poço das Antas Biological Reserve, a protected area of swampy forests in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is an important bastion of the Golden Lion Tamarin, as only 2% of forests in the monkey's original range remains. Furthermore, its existing habitat has been broken up by logging and agriculture; this has led to isolated populations and inbreeding, a combination likely to result in extinction.

PostHeaderIcon Common Cold Symptoms and Remedies

Common Cold Symptoms

Soreness of throat, congestion of nasal passages

The initial signs of a cold are a feeling of soreness of the throat and congestion of the nasal passages. Although the disease normally begins in the nose and throat, it affects all parts of the body.

Running nose, Sneezing, headache, chill

Its usual symptoms are a running nose, sneezing, a rise in temperature, headache, sore throat, chill, aches and pains in the body, and loss of appetite. The skin around the nostrils may become sore.

Causes of Common Cold

The causes of common cold are low vitality, exposure to cold, lack of sleep, mental depression, fatigue, and factors such as sudden changes in temperature, dust, and other irritating inhalations are important contributory causes.

Common Cold Home Remedies

Common Cold treatment using Lemon

Lemon is the most important among the many home remedies for common cold. It is beneficial in all types of cold with fever. Vitamin C-rich lemon juice increases body resistance, decreases toxicity and reduces the duration of the illness. One lemon should be diluted in a glass of warm water, and a teaspoon of honey should be added to it. This should be taken once or twice daily.

Common Cold treatment using Garlic

Garlic soup is an old remedy to reduce the severity of a cold, and should be taken once daily. The soup can be prepared by boiling three or four cloves of chopped garlic in a cup of water. Garlic contains antiseptic and antispasmodic properties, besides several other medicinal virtues. The oil contained in this vegetable helps to open up the respiratory passages. In soup form, it flushes out all toxins from the system and thus helps bring down fever. Five drops of garlic oil combined with a teaspoon of onion juice, and diluted in a cup of water, should be drunk two to three times a day. This has also been found to be very effective in the treatment of common cold.
